It becomes a challenge when it comes to clean the leather jackets. Cleaning also includes getting the clothes rid of the bad smell. The main causes of the odour are sweat and moisture, smoke or cooking aromas. It is time-consuming and expensive if for every wear you have to go to a professional cleaner just to get your jackets cleaned. Therefore, to get the foul odour out of the leather jackets, follow these tips and make your life easier.

1. Wash with a mild detergent

Never go rash while washing. Remember to check the lining of the jacket if it is colourfast. Mild detergent can be a good option if you don't know or don't have any label on it. It works on almost all the fabrics. You simply have to add around four cups of water with one tablespoon of mild detergent. Take a clean sponge and dip into the mixture. Squeeze out the extra water. Now, clean the inner lining of the jacket by tossing it inside out, with the help of a dampened sponge. Be careful and clean the areas where you think most of the odour gets collected. If you see that water gets onto your leather jacket, simply wipe it off with a clean cloth so that it doesn't create spots.

2. Use baking soda and soak up the odours

Baking soda is considered to be the best to remove the foul smell and at the same time freshens your leather jacket. Start the process and sprinkle some baking soda on your jacket lining. Now, take a spray bottle and fill it up with warm water. Use this and spray on the areas where baking soda was sprinkled. Don't disturb it for about 20 minutes. You will observe that baking soda has completely dried. Take a clean and damp cloth and wipe it off.

3. Air out your jackets

Once you are done with the cleaning process, don't just go and hang the leather jacket in the direct sunlight. It is good if you find some place in your home or nearby where you get indirect sun rays. Windows can be best to hang it inside. Or else, use a hanger to hang your jacket and leave it stationary until dry. If hanged in the morning, by evening your jacket might get rid of the bad smell, leaving behind fresh jacket for you.

It is common that your leather jackets are bound with the bad smell but this becomes difficult as it won't be removed by cleaning regularly. You need to take proper care of your jacket by wiping it down and using cream to save it from not drying. You can preserve the freshness of the jacket by preventing the use of strong aromas when you wear it. Follow these steps as they will help you to keep your leather jackets odour-free.
